INTERACTIVE CASE EXPLORER

Case 1

Using the ABCDE system, (A-airway, B-bones, C-cardiomediastinal, D-diaphragm, E-everything else), decide which area is abnormal in this case.

Question 1:

a) What are three things that could produce this appearance?

× Answer:
The trachea is deviated to the right and slightly narrowed. This could represent many different processes, including aneurysm, hematoma, adenopathy, goiter, or abscess.

b) What additional imaging would be helpful?

× Answer:
The lateral view should help to localize the process, and likely a CT scan should be done to further evaluate all of these possibilities.
